Hello and welcome to the (em)power couple blog! Check out our video above to hear more about what this project is all about.
About the authors:
Ellen is an Ohio native with bounds of love for the entire human family. She is passionate about achieving global justice, peace, and equality through radical love and empowerment. Ellen appreciates a diverse selection of theologies and philosophies. She is also a dedicated board member of the InterReligious Task Force in Cleveland and the co-founder of a feminist book club called Female Readers Unite and Smash the Patriarchy (aka FRUSP… pronounced “froosp”). Ellen also enjoys yoga, nonviolently destructing the patriarchy, being kind to our Earth, elephants, and Aziz Ansari. Ellen also happens to be one of Keely’s favorite people on this earth. Keely credits her for inspiring her growing interest in vegetarianism and many others probably do too (her passion is infectious).
Keely is a student at Ohio State University where she majors in Public Health and Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is in her early twenties and from central Ohio. Keely has grown into her feminism significantly in the last couple years and is able to carefully deconstruct the stuff we’re taught as women in America with wit and compassion. Keely loves dogs, would eat ice cream everyday and Parks & Rec changed her life. Keely is one of Ellen’s favorite people and the best dancer Ellen knows. Seriously.
Keely and Ellen became friends through their church camp (not THAT kind of church camp…) and through the Fringe Community. They discovered kindred spirits in one another and found themselves in a never ending circle of each wanting the other to be a good friend because both Ellen and Keely thought the other was the bee’s knees. (Confused yet?) Basically its a fan club built for two. The two women have a lot in common – both vegetarian, both love reading and learning, similar focuses in social justice- and yet are distinct. See: Keely’s Dance moves.
